Drug Rehab Yukon Yukon Drug Rehab

In Canada studies have been conducted by The Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA) which relay the following rather alarming facts regarding addiction to drugs or alcohol. Approximately 1,900 or 6.1 % of people from the Yukon are binge drinkers, who regularly consume a harmful amount of alcohol and are dependent on alcohol. The same studies indicate that 1.8% or 550 people from the Yukon are dependent on illicit drugs. If you require immediate assistance to locate a treatment facility or over the phone advice in dealing with an addict and the care available in Nova Scotia or the rest of Canada call Canada Rehab at 1-800-419-7941.

The Yukon is a territory which, similar to the other territories, has adopted a fairly minimalist approach to its citizens’ drug and alcohol addiction. It has 11 rehab facilities that offer the following types of treatment: detoxification, drug rehab, long term residential, short term residential, outpatient and day programs. Because it is a territory whose population is spread over a vast area, depending on where a person lives, he or she may have to travel some distance in order to receive addictions services. It should be noted that there is not a single withdrawal management facility servicing the entire territory, which makes it impossible for residents to detox without traveling to another province or territory.

Drug Rehabilitation Yukon

There are approximately 2,500 people from the Yukon in need of detoxification, intervention, and drug rehab or alcohol rehabilitation programs, coupled with short term or long term after care. There are no detox facilities and only 1 residential facility which can accommodate approximately 40 addicts, bringing the total number of available government-funded beds to approximately 40, to be divided amongst the 2,500 who need treatment. Of the 11 facilities located in the Yukon, 8 are outpatient programs that offer very little support to alcoholics and addicts. There is scarcely enough treatment to make a serious dent in the current addiction problem plaguing the Yukon Territory.

Addiction Treatment Yukon

A Yukon Addictions Survey conducted in 2005, the last year for which information is available, indicated that the addiction problem of the general population of the Yukon is similar to that of the rest of Canada; however the 'high risk' group, a strategic sample of people thought to be at particularly high risk (recruited from downtown Whitehorse street corners, a soup kitchen, Salvation Army, etc.) the rates were significantly higher. The percentage of alcohol and other drug used in the year before the study was done for those more than 15 years old showed the Yukon average of 79% for alcohol, which matched the Canadian average. The high-risk group in the Yukon was at 81%. A total of 21% of the Yukon’s general population had used cannabis in the previous year compared with 74% in the high-risk group, with the national average being 14%.
Past statistics have shown the Yukon has the highest per capita liquor sales in the country. Not only were there a lot more users of cannabis and cocaine in the high-risk group, there were also a significant number of users of hallucinogens, ecstasy and methamphetimines.

Yukon Intervention Services

A drug abuser usually does not know he is out of control. He looks at his drug-using peers and his own use appears normal in comparison. He needs objective feedback on his behavior. Drug or alcohol abuse intervention is a process that helps an abuser recognize the extent of his problem. Through a non-judgmental, non-critical, systematic process, the drug addict is confronted with the impact of his alcohol or drug use on others. The goal of drug abuse intervention is for the addict to accept the reality of his drug abuse and to seek help. If you need help finding an intervention service in the Yukon please call Canada Rehab today! 1-800-419-7941.
